Temporary Marriage Legislation Introduced in Mexico!

Marriage is not what it used to be. The exchange of vows of a man and a woman through holy sacrement and promised to live happily until death parts them. Some of the open countries allow gay marriage now a days. Soon we will see Mexico. Now the city was allowing temporary marriage license.

Half of the marriage in the city ending in divorce, so the city is currently mulling around the idea of a temporary marriage license. It could eliminate the hassle that comes with separation.

Leonel Luna, the Mexico City assemblyman who co-authored the bill, said that the minimum marriage contract would be two years. After the contract expires a couple could renew their vows or agree to go their separate ways.
The proposal is, when the two-year period is up, if the relationship is not stable or harmonious, the contract simply ends… You wouldn’t have to go through the tortuous process of divorce.”

The temporary marriage contract would include provision on how to handle money, property, and children if the contract isn't renewed. According to him, his proposal is gaining momentum, although he admits that the church is less than supportive.

From the spokesman of Mexico Archdiocese, Hugo Valdemar, said, “This reform is absurd. It contradicts the nature of marriage. It’s another one of these electoral theatrics the assembly tends to do that are irresponsible and immoral.”

What are your thoughts? Is marriage still relevant at this time or do we need to accept that every things in this world is temporary? Just like marriage, time will come that a couple will separate their ways.
